Energy Saving Tips

Problem

Troubleshoot

All my electric appliances are off but the meter is still showing that I consume energy
  • Disconnect electric appliances.
  • It's not enough to put off the TV with the remote control, also use the button on the TV itself.
  • Disconnect phone chargers from the plug when not in use.

I need light but I want to be as energy efficient as possible!
  • Close all lights when you leave a room.
  • Use the bedside lamp instead of the ceiling lamp.
  • Use Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL), they consume ten times less electricity than incandescent bulbs.
  • Open curtains during the day to take advantage of natural light.

My heating and cooling bills are killing me!
  • Clean or substitute the heating and cooling filters every month because when they get dirty they consume more energy.
  • Open the window during the day in winter to allow sunlight and heat to enter your home.
  • Close the curtains at night in winter to eliminate heat loss.
  • Close windows and curtains during summer days and cover them by curtains to prevent the sun from heating your home.
  • Close the empty rooms while there’s no one in them to decrease the heated/cooled area.
  • Make an every year service for your heating and cooling systems to make sure that they work efficiently.

I have very high water heating costs!
  • Use a low flow shower to reduce the amount of water especially the hot water.
  • Repair/replace leaky taps.
  • Use small devices to save energy while cooking in general and especially when heating water.

I want to save money when washing my clothes
  • Always wash with cold water whenever possible.
  • Never wash only a few items, wash and dry full loads to increase the efficiency to the maximum.
  • Don’t overload dryers because then they consume more energy.
  • Adjust the water level to be suitable with the load size.
