As of the 18th of January 2010, thesecond phase of the project has commenced operations from Cairo/Egypt. Fundedby the European Union and in continuation of its first phase, MED-ENEC II willcontribute to the development of Energy efficiency (EE) and Renewable Energies(RE) in the construction and related sectors. It will closely cooperate withthe "Regional Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energies and Energyefficiency" RCREEE (www.rcreee.org), MED-EMIP (www.medemip.eu) andMEDENER (www.cres.gr/medener) to help reduce the (relative) energy consumptionin the Mediterranean Partner Countries (MPC) building sector, thereby reducingtheir dependency on fossil fuels, improving security of energy supply, andmitigating their impact on climate change.

MED-ENEC supports ten pilot projects (PP) in the southern and eastern Mediterranean countries. These PP demonstrate new and energy efficient technologies as well as integrative approaches and the use of renewable energies in buildings. The PP have been selected in an open public competition, and the technical and financial support by MED-ENEC is ongoing.
All the projects have started construction, and the inauguration of the Turkish pilot project (PP) took already place in October 2007. The Lebanese and the Jordan PP are in the final stage of implementation. It is expected that all 10 PP will be finalized until October 2008.
